"The One you Feed", 2010 8" x 8 1/4" Pen, Ink, acrylic on watercolor paper.
This piece is my visual representation of this quote which is an old Cherokee tale:
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
Very nice... i really like how you chose to represent it! And i love the tale.. i've never heard it before. I quite like it. I've always loved old native american tales.. they always are so interesting and meaningful... shows so much how they taught their young, while most of our stories today teach our other things.. i mean, every girl has this princess fantasy in their mind because of the stories we tell... etc. i very much like this piece!
Thank you, glad to share both the art and the story. It is definitely one of those stories that should be shared with kids, especially in these days as the material possessions and commercial look of clothing and accessories is what is constantly being pushed on the youth.
A great story to give to the youth to teach them a brief and easily remembered lesson about morality in what is becoming an immoral world. Thank you again.
